A Great Essay on Courtship

I was reading Jessica's Journal today and found a great post. She is a young lady who is courting a her fiance, and she wrote a great essay on how they court, why, and what rules they follow. The music on her site is "iffy", so feel free to turn down the volume. If you really want to find the one God has for you and do it with no heartache, disappointment or failure (meaning sin), this is how you do it. PLEASE READ IT!!!

Hey,
Thanks for visitng my blog! And for this post. That was very nice of you!

I'm sorry you don't like the southern gospel music. I don't want to offend anyone. Is that your convictions, or you just don't care for it? I would rather have no music, than to offend someone.

Thanks again for the comment!!

Jungle Mom,

Actually, I found your blog in Julie's Jewels' blogroll and I really liked it. Thanks for visiting mine, and for the comment.

Jessica,

Hey, thanks for the visit! I don't want to tell you what music to put on your blog because that's completely up to you. It doesn't offend me at all. I do however try to be judicious with what I promote here because I work with the youth at our church and many of them read my blog. I choose not to listen to music that has the rock beat undertones that southern gospel has and we exhort our teens to do the same for a number of reasons. Those will have to be detailed in a later post. In a nutshell, I don't listen to it but what you listen to is between you and God. I want to encourage you to keep up the site though because you are a huge encouragement to all those out there that want to meet and court their future spouse the right way.

Oh yeah, the audio clip isn't me, it's Freddy DeAnda from First Baptist Church of Hammond. It's from a sermon he preached at their 2005 Youth Conference called "Shake it Off!" The entire sermon is on my blog somewhere, but you have to find it :)

Hey,

I just wanted to say that I did take the music off. (Not because you said so, but because the Bible does theech that we should be careful that we don't make others fall) I want my site to help people, and I don't want to discourage what that you are trying to do. While I (personally) don't see anything wrong with the music, I think that it is better to have no music than music that might make people not see the real reason for my blog (to help people with their walk with Christ). And honestly music is destracting to me while I am trying to read anyway (I always have my volume down! LOL!)

Again, I did want to say that I did not remove it because of you (since I am aware that we are to do things because of God, and not man.) However after praying about it last night, I feel that the Lord would have me take it off, if it is a distraction to readers.

Also, I would like to add this... if anyone is reading this that reads my blog. If you have concerns about something on my blog, feel free to let me know. But please note that I make decisions through much prayer, and not just because someone tells me to do something. So please be aware that I may not change my blog just because you want me to. (My orders come from God) And I think that Bro David Scott would agree that this is the way we should do things.

Thanks again David Scott,
Jessica

What a blessing to get on here and find this post. Ronnie is my son and I'm so thankful to God for sending Jessica our way and putting her into my son's life. We love her and appreciate her godly testimony and her love for her Lord. Thank you for using her post to help others in this area of courtship.

Wow, what a small Blogosphere! I didn't know he was your son, but that's cool! I'm always excited to find young people who are willing to "do it right" and set an example for others to follow. Having gone through the courtship process myself just a few years ago, I know it can be challenging at times and I have a great respect for them.

This is a really great post.

It's a shame that one person's stupid comment would make someone take their music off their site.

It's a shame that you felt the need for a second stupid comment...

so BRO.SCOTT you used my advice.

To start commenting on other people's blogs? Absolutely! It's a great idea!

I just don't think it's any of your business to criticise someone for having good, godly music on their site just because it doesn't measure up to Hyles style. I could say a LOT about Hyles...some of us enjoyed the GODLY music on her site and she took it down just for ONE person.

That one person happens to be the LORD and SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST and none else!

David said...

I didn't say anything about Hyles, did you Jordan? Where did a dead guy get into this discussion?

Anonymous said...

I certainly didn't. I think some one here is delusional. :)

Katy-Anne, in all honesty, you really need to be directing your comments to Jessica. I never told her that the music was wrong or asked her to take it down. I simply told MY readers on MY blog that they should visit her site, but warned them that the music was "iffy" and they should turn down their volume. When she asked me:

"I'm sorry you don't like the southern gospel music. I don't want to offend anyone. Is that your convictions, or you just don't care for it? I would rather have no music, than to offend someone."

I responded:

"I don't want to tell you what music to put on your blog because that's completely up to you. It doesn't offend me at all. I do however try to be judicious with what I promote here because I work with the youth at our church and many of them read my blog."

She replied:

"I just wanted to say that I did take the music off. (Not because you said so, but because the Bible does theech that we should be careful that we don't make others fall) I want my site to help people, and I don't want to discourage what that you are trying to do."

Since she said herself that this was her decision, why don't you go ahead and direct your comments to her instead of me.

By the way, I have absolutely no affiliation with Hyles Anderson College, Jack Hyles, Hyles Hitler, or whatever other Hyles to which you were referring. There are more Christians out there that don't believe in mixing worldly music with Christian lyrics than just in Indiana.

Good response Bro. Scott!

In case anyone is wondering, Mary is my sister. I was reading through these and realized some of you may think it strange that she "misses talking to me".
